Single Calculation
A single calculation allows you to compute the characteristic impedance and secondary via parameters based on the specified geometric via configuration and its electrophysical settings.
To perform a single calculation, follow these steps:
-
Set the initial calculation settings:
- Set Target to
Via

- Set Target to
-
Select the required via model and review it in the preview area.

-
Configure the selected via model by toggling the Coating and Ref plane 1...4 checkboxes in the preview area.

-
Define the input via and PCB settings:

- Dv – Via diameter (mm).
- Tp – Via plating thickness (mm).
- Dp – Via pad diameter (mm). The number of Dp parameters (Dp1, Dp2, etc.) depends on the number of conductive layers in the selected model.
- Da – Antipad diameter (mm). The number of Da parameters (Da1, Da2, etc.) depends on the number of conductive layers in the selected model.
- T – Trace thickness (mm). The number of T parameters (T1, T2, etc.) depends on the number of conductive layers in the selected model.
- H – Dielectric height (mm). The number of H parameters (H1, H2, etc.) depends on the number of dielectric layers in the selected model.
- Er – Dielectric constant. The number of Er parameters (Er1, Er2, etc.) depends on the number of dielectric layers in the selected model.
- C1 – Coating thickness (mm).
- CEr – Coating dielectric constant.
-
Click Calculate in the lower-right corner of the calculation tab to run the calculation of the characteristic impedance and secondary parameters of the via.

Before running the calculation, you can click the dropdown arrow next to the Calculate button to choose between two calculation saving options:

- Overwrite calculation – Saves the modified input parameters to the current calculation, overwriting previous data.
- Save as new calculation – Saves the modified input parameters to a new calculation. This calculation will appear in the Projects panel.
Calculation Results
The calculated parameters are displayed in a table at the bottom of the tab.

The parameters include:
- Zo – Characteristic impedance (Ohm).
- Tpd – Via propagation delay (ps).
- C – Via capacitance (pF).
- Vp – Signal propagation velocity (m/s).
- L – Via inductance (nH).
- EEr – Effective dielectric constant.
